Written Guide
-
Prep the Machine
-
Power down and unplug the machine.
- Remove both shroud panels.
-
Move the distance rod all the way to the top position (flush against the plate).
-
Release tension on the launch arm: Push the launch arm down manually to take the pressure off the hook, lift the hook up, and slowly release the arm.
-
-
Remove the Grab Arm Assembly
-
-
Use the 13mm wrench and 6mm Allen wrench to loosen the nut and bolt on the grab arm. You don't need to remove them entirely—just loosen them enough to provide "play."
-
Lift the upper pulley and slide the grab arm assembly off the drive shaft.
-
Step 3: Disconnect the Wiring
-
Grounding wire: Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the grounding bolt at the top of the motor. (Note: New MotionTech motors may not require this wire).
-
Zip ties: Cut the zip ties securing the power cables.
-
Power Connector: Locate the power harness. If your machine has an inline fuse cable, disconnect the motor there. If it's an older model, you may need to disconnect it directly from the P13 connector on the power board.
Step 4: Remove the Old Motor
-
The motor is held by four 5mm Allen bolts.
-
Crucial: Support the motor with one hand from the other side of the frame while loosening the bolts. It is heavy and will fall once the last bolt is removed.
-
Remove the bottom three bolts first, then carefully remove the top bolt while bracing the motor.
Step 5: Install the New Motor
-
Check that the key is securely in the slot on the new motor's drive shaft.
-
Align the motor with the four bolt holes from the inside of the frame.
-
Hand-tighten the top bolt first to secure it, then install the remaining three.
- Note: Each bolt should have a flat washer followed by a lock washer. Tighten them firmly, but do not over-torque, as you could strip the threads in the motor mount.
Step 6: Reinstall the Grab Arm
-
Slide the grab arm back onto the drive shaft, ensuring the keyway aligns with the key on the shaft.
-
Set the Gap Distance: This is the most critical step. Position the grab arm so it is hanging approximately an 1/8" off the end of the drive shaft. An image of how close they should be can be seen below.
- Note: Do not press the grab arm flush against the end of the drive shaft. If it is too close, it will break the reed switch when the motor rotates.

-
Tighten the grab arm bolt and nut securely.
Step 7: Final Connections
-
Reconnect the power harness (connect the inline fuse cable or board connector back into place).
- Power Board Setting: This step is very important not to miss. If you are going from the gray Grosschop motor to the black MotionTech motor, there is a switch that needs to be flipped on the Power Board. The correct positioning is as follows. Up for the black MotionTech motor and down for the gray Grosschop motor.

-
Bundle and secure the wires away from moving parts using new zip ties.
- Reconnect the green grounding wire to the top of the Launch Motor.
- If you are installing the black MotionTech motor, the grounding wire can be completely removed from the frame of the machine with a 3mm Allen wrench as it will not be used.
-
Plug in the machine and run a test cycle to ensure the motor fires and the reed switch correctly identifies the arm's position.
- Manually Testing Launch - Ensure that all Basketballs are removed from the machine as the machine may launch while going through this process. In the Dr. Dish Player App or on your machine's tablet, with your machine powered on, navigate to the following Menu location, More > Support > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics > Machine Commands. Select “Launch“ a single Launch action should occur. You may have to select this twice depending on the position of the launch arm at the time. Ensure you are paying attention to the Launch Switch status as well. This should change from Off to On and then back Off.
